The Impossible Sea

Let me set up the backdrop for you.

It’s vast and with immense power. As far as the eye can see, the blue sky and sea seem to connect without pause. There’s a sense of quietness that rests within its borders that holds so many stories and secrets. There are depths beyond imagination. There’s no reasoning with it. There’s no way of becoming best friends. It doesn’t see race, hold grudges, fall in love, hate, pass judgement or wage war.

The sound of the waves makes a loud roar as it crashes against land or rocks, slowly eroding away the earth. As the waves come onto the beach, you can see small marine life struggle against the current back and forth. The peaceful walk among the abundance of seashells, looking for hidden gems and you forget out time. When you sit and stare at the endless water in front of you, the mind begins to wonder, going through pages and pages of memories unfolding what ifs. It’s not often that you have quiet moments, however, when you’re alone looking at the endless water, it may be hours later before you move.

Each Sunday, I have the privilege of working with our youth and love to hear them use their imaginations when we read about the stories from the Bible. A few Sundays ago, the group focused on Moses parting the Red Sea with his staff. He was faced with two obstacles, The Red Sea in front of him and Pharoah’s army behind him, both of which seemed beyond impossible to face. With confidence and faith, Moses raised his staff and the sea opened revealing a dry path to walk on. Imagine seeing all the marine life looking back at you as you pass through to get to the other side. Imagine looking up and the sea stands so tall, it looks like it’s touching the heavens. It’s mind blowing! God is absolutely amazing!

Read: Exodus 14; 10-22

Also, I love to see the movies that brought this story to life, such as The Ten Commandments and The Prince of Egypt, which was a cartoon. Not ashamed of that at all.

Every day we are faced with so many big and small obstacles, where we need to take our imaginary staff, raise it to the Lord with all confidence and faith! I’m facing a challenge as I pen this and as the impossible sea seem bigger than I can ever encounter, I’m raising my staff! Raise those hands! Praise God in advance!

Be Kept!
