All eyes and no sight
I brought this mug with a lot of shady phrases on it from Barnes and Noble months ago because it caught my attention and made me laugh. It’s large enough for my morning coffee and occasional teatime. Not to mention, I love collecting mugs, only to drive my husband insane because of my absurd number of mugs and cups. Don’t believe this one will be tossed out in a donation box, and if I begin to purge, this will be the last to go. In my mind each mug has some kind of significance and yet I end up only using a few as my go to favorites. The phrases on the mug can be funny or over my head. However, there was one particular on that stood out caught my attention.
“All eyes and no sight.” The meaning; someone who has the physical ability to look at things but entirely misses their meaning or purpose.
Think back on a time when you’ve been involved in conversations or situations with someone who clearly does not have a single clue as to what’s going on. Your level of irritability begins to boil over because of the time spent on explaining and nothing gets accomplished. It’s also reminds me of a daydreaming state. Having a glazed stare and not focused on surroundings. Either way, you’re back to square one and no closer to having anything finished and/or accomplished.
Well, from my nursing side; our eyes are sensory organs which help you see the world. Capturing light, which will change into signals, sent to our brain to make pictures. There are six (6) parts of the eye; Corona, Iris, Pupil, Lens, Retina and Optic Nerve. A common surgery patients will elect to have is cataract surgery to improve their vision. It’s unfortunate when someone loses their sight either at birth or by accident, both are of no fault of their own.
Eyes also represent perception, spiritual insight, moral attitude and God’s all-seeing presence. God created man in his own image, therefore creating our eyesight and healing the blind. Scriptures also tell us that our eyesight is spiritual awareness and to guard our eyes to what we look at, focusing on our faith walk. I can remember watching something that would cause me to jump at the television and that’s all I would think or dream about as I slept. I should have known it’s not good to watch something so negative and it will rest in my spirit. The Holy Spirit has its way on making sure I’m protected even when I don’t know how to protect myself.

Psalms 101;3 - I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes; I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.
Matthew 6; 22-23 - The light of the body is the eye; if therefore thine eye be single, they whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, they whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness.
Proverbs 4;25 - Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
II Corinthians 5;7 - For we walk by faith, not by sight
Ask for heart of understanding, ears to hear and eyes to see. The world around us is changing and we all need to be careful of everything that goes on around us as well. So, open those eyes!
